ST. PETER, Minn. – The Augustana men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches Sunday in St. Peter, Minnesota. First, the Vikings fell 7-0 to No. 13-ranked Gustavus, then narrowly dropped a 4-3 decision to Luther College.
Augustana falls to 3-3 on the season while Gustavus moves to 2-0 on the young season. Luther improves to 2-1.
The Vikings couldn't garner the momentum needed against the nationally ranked Gusties, falling by scores of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-1 in doubles action.
Cade Damgaard put a strong battle together at No. 1 singles, falling 7-5, 6-2. It was a tie-breaker at No. 4 singles as
North Knewtson fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Against Luther, Augustana claimed the doubles point thanks to victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Damgaard partnered with Knewtson to win No. 1 doubles at 7-6. At No. 2,
Jakson Stoutamire and
Eden Mrozek won 6-2.
In singles play,
Tyson Cowger prevailed at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-4. At No. 6 singles,
Tory Shafer won in a thriller, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
Augustana travels to St. Joseph, Missouri, on Saturday to face Rockhurst in a neutral-site match.
