KANSAS CITY -- After an impressive day-one performance, junior Jacob Lee of the Augustana men's golf team leads the field after day one of the NSIC Championships taking place at Shoal Creek Golf Club, in Kansas City, Missouri.

The junior posted a 70 in round one Friday with the course par set at 71. Lee finished two strokes ahead of second-place, making him the only golfer under-par on the day.

"Jake persevered very well today," head coach Danny Sinksen said. "It was cold and rainy, but he remained unfazed and played steady and committed to his shots all day. I'm extremely proud of his grit today and excited to see what the next two days will bring."

Golfing exceptionally all day, Lee hit his strides on holes 13-17. He birdied holes 13, 14 and 15, parred 16 and birdied hole 17. Overall, the junior birdied four holes and parred 11.

Following Lee, junior Hunter Von Bergen finished in a tie for 18th place on the day with a score of 77. Senior Sam Sutcliffe, freshman Spencer Wittstruck and junior Alex Stanz all finished with scores of 82, 85 and 86, respectively.

As a team, the Vikings head into day two of the championships in eighth place. The title, however, is up for grabs as just 13 strokes separates Augustana from first-place Winona State.

The Vikings tee off at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with 18 holes of golf schedule for each day to determine the NSIC Champion and NSIC All-Tournament Team.
