LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The United State Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Monday that Augustana volleyball has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award. 

This is Augustana's fifth year in a row achieving this award. This past year, the Vikings finished the 2020-21 school year with a 3.683 team GPA.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

 "This team continues to set the standard of academic excellence," head coach Jennifer Jacobs said. "The coaching staff continues to be proud of their many accomplishments and we are blessed to be supporting them in their academic pursuits!"The Vikings are one of 1,275 teams to earn the award in 2020-21, 

Augustana starts its 2021 season heading to the Tampa Volleyball Classic on Sept. 3-4. The Vikings home opener will be Friday, September 24 against Bemidji State.
