Von Bergen Places Ninth at Bemidji Invite

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Augustana men's golf team finished its first tournament of the year in Minnesota on Tuesday. The Vikings tied for fourth place at the Bemidji Invite hosted by Bemidji State. 

Individually, Hunter Von Bergen led the Vikings with a score of 75 for both rounds one and two. He tied for ninth place. Von Bergen's total score for the tournament was 150 at 8-over-par.

There were a total of seven teams competing in the tournament: Minot State, Concordia College Minnesota, Bemidji State, Minnesota State, and the University of Mary. Bemidji State had two teams competing in this tournament. 

The Vikings' Preseason player to Watch, Jacob Lee, finished the tournament closely behind Von Bergen with a score of 151. His total for day one was 79 and improved by seven strokes with a 72 for day two. Senior Alex Stanz totaled 152 strokes for the two-day tournament.

"We learned a lot this tournament," head coach Danny Sinksen said. "Things started clicking as we improved eight shots today. We are capable of playing some great golf this year and with each tournament, we will improve. I am excited to see what is to come!"

Sam Sutcliffe and Will Allen wrapped up the team scoring, each totaling 157 strokes over the two rounds. Competing as individuals, Cullen Johnson placed in a tie for 15th with 152 shots while Jordan Slagle recorded 160 shots. 

Up Next

Augustana moves on to Rapid City, S.D. next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Hardrocker Invitational hosted by South Dakota Mines.
