TOPEKA, Kan.- After a hard fought match in Kansas, the Augustana soccer team fell to the Washburn Ichabods by one goal on Sunday with the final score of the contest being 2-1. The Vikings record is now 0-2-0 to begin the season as Washburn improves to 2-0-0. 

The Vikings were off to a quick start in the first half with senior Morgan Keirstead setting up freshman Sierra Barkus finding the back of the net. Barkus scored on a deflection after a free kick from Keirstead, and the ball flew past the Washburn goalkeeper into the lower-right corner of the net to score the Viking's first goal of the season. The goal came during the second minute of play in the game and was assisted off a free kick from 25 yards out.

Washburn scored its first of the game in the 24th minute of play. The second goal was scored on a penalty kick in the second half in the 55th minute. 

Augustana tallied 15 total shots in the game with five on goal. Junior Katherine Pelton led the charge with three shots. Keirstead also recorded two shots, both on goal. Ten players for the Vikings had at least one shot during the matchup.

Washburn had 11 total shots with eight of them landing on goal. 

The Augustana soccer team returns to the pitch for its third game of the season to take on Nebraska-Kearney on September 12th in Kearney, Nebraska.
