No. 16 Augustana Women’s Tennis Sweeps NSIC Weekend

OWATONNA, Minn. – The No. 16 Augustana women's tennis team continued its conference win streak with a 7-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday and a 7-0 win over Minnesota State on Sunday in Owatonna, Minnesota.

The Vikings remain undefeated this season, with a 7-0 record overall while being 4-0 within the loop. Southwest Minnesota State moves to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC while Minnesota State falls to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in NSIC play.

Augustana won the doubles point, with all three doubles teams securing victories. No. 1 doubles of Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou won 6-0. Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova paced No. 2 doubles, winning 6-3. In No. 3 doubles, Aleksandra Kistanova and Emily Granson came away with a 6-1 victory.

The Vikings continued to bring in wins in singles play, going six-for-six on the day. 

Monko and Granson won in similar scores in No. 1 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively. Monko won by way of 6-1, 6-0, while Granson won 6-0, 6-1.

Jancikova tallied a 6-1, 6-1, victory in No. 5 singles while Kistanova paced No. 4 singles in 6-1, 6-2, fashion. 

Hadjigeorgiou had a tough competitor in No. 2 singles but came away with a 7-6, 6-4, win.

Arce Vieyra won No. 3 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-2.

The Vikings started the match claiming the doubles point with No. 2 doubles team Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova winning 6-0. No. 1 and No. 3 doubles were both won in 6-4 fashion, with Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou playing in the No. 1 position and Aleksandra Kistanova and Emily Granson competing in the No. 3 slot.

The Vikings won every match in singles play as well, with Hadjigeorgiou finishing first for the Vikings in No. 2 singles, earning a double-bagel.

Granson was the next winner for Augustana, coming in No. 6 singles going 6-1, 6-1.

The NSIC Preseason Player of the Year, Jancikova, won No. 5 singles also performing a double-bagel.

The other Viking winners were Kistanova in No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-1), Arce Vieyra in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0), and Monko in No. 1 singles (6-2, 4-6, 10-4).

The Vikings return to action hosting MSU Moorhead and UMary for a weekend of matches inside the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club. Saturday's match against MSU Moorhead is slated for a 6 p.m. start, while Sunday's contest against UMary will be at 9 a.m.
