No. 16 Viking Tennis Sweeps MSU Moorhead; Bests UMary, 6-1

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The No. 16 Augustana women's tennis team continued its NSIC win streak with a weekend of wins against MSU Moorhead (7-0) and UMary (6-1) at GreatLIFE Woodlake in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Vikings remain undefeated with an overall record of 9-0 while going 6-0 within the loop. MSU Moorhead falls to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in NSIC play while UMary moves to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Augustana 7, MSU Moorhead 0

The Vikings were near-perfect in the win against MSU Moorhead on Saturday night. Augustana claimed the doubles point with No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles, winning in 6-0 fashion. Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou were in the No. 1 position, while Aleksandra Kistanova and Emily Granson played in the No. 3 slot.

Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova won No. 2 doubles, earning a 6-2 victory.

In singles play, five of six Vikings won with double-bagel scores as Monko (No. 1 singles), Hadjigeorgiou (No. 2 singles), Arce Vieyra (No. 3 singles), Jancikova (No. 4 singles) and Granson, (No. 5 singles) all won 6-0, 6-0.

Kistanova also secured a win in the No. 5 slot, winning in 6-3, 6-0, fashion.

Augustana 6, UMary 1

In the Sunday morning tilt against UMary, Augustana handed the Marauders their first loss of the season. The Vikings earned the doubles point with all three doubles teams coming away with victories. 

Aleksandra Kistanova and Emily Granson won No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-1. Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou won No. 1 doubles, coming away with a 6-3 win. Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova battled for the No. 2 doubles victory, winning 7-6.

In singles action, the Vikings won five matches with Monko and Hadjigeorgiou keeping their singles play conference win streak alive, winning No. 1 and No. 2 singles, both turning out scores of 6-3, 6-1.

Kistanova won No. 4 singles by way of 6-4, 6-0. 

Jancikova and Granson handled No. 5 and No. 6 singles with wins of 6-1, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.

Up Next

The Vikings will head south to Orlando, Florida, as part of their spring break trip with matches on Mar. 7-9. Augustana will face nonconference foes in Division I opponent Oakland, and Division II foes in Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry Riddle.
