No. 16 Vikings Topple Ichabods, 4-2

TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 16 Augustana women's tennis team had a big victory on the road coming away with a 4-2 win against regional opponent Washburn in Topeka, Kansas, on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings were able to avenge their loss to the Ichabods, falling to them 4-2 in the NCAA Central Tournament last May.

The Vikings improve to 12-1 overall with the nonconference win, while the Ichabods are now 4-7 on the season.

"This was a heck of a match for the ladies," head coach Marc Kurtz said. "We were able to get the doubles point and then battled up and down the singles lineup.

"It was great to have Chouliara back in the lineup and she was the clinching match. We get a few hours to enjoy this win and then we get ready for another quality team in Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon."

Augustana battled to earn the doubles point, taking two of three matches. The Ichabods struck first, winning No. 3 doubles by way of 6-2. Augustana overcame Washburn in the next two matches, with Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jancikova taking No. 2 doubles, 6-4, defeating the No. 29 ranked doubles team in Kinsey Fields and Maja Jung.

The Vikings claimed the doubles point, with Valeriya Monko and Florentia Hadjigeorgiou battling to claim No. 1 doubles, 7-6.

In singles play, Augustana was able to claim three matches.

Hadjigeorgiou had a hard-fought match in No. 2 singles pulling out the win by way of 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

Aleksandra Kistanova handled No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 7-5, victory.

The Vikings put away the match with Margarita Chouliara winning No. 6 singles in 6-3, 6-3, fashion.

Jancikova's match in No. 5 singles went unfinished.
