WINTER PARK, Fla. – It was a positive start to the day for the No. 8 Augustana softball team in a 3-1 win over Rollins in Winter Park, Florida. However, the second game did not fall in favor of AU in a 7-1 loss.
Â
Augustana moves to 7-4 on the seasons while Rollins is 11-4 after Wednesday's contests.
Â
Game One: No. 8 Augustana 3, Rollins 1
The Vikings tallied six hits in the contest but were able to scratch three runs across the plate in the 3-1 victory. In the top of the second,
Gracey Brink doubled into left center, scoring
Torri Chute from second base. Chute had reached base on a single into left field.
Â
In the fourth inning, the Vikings plated two runs to take a 3-0 lead. Chute again singled into left field to lead-off the inning. She was pushed to second base when
Abby Lien was hit by a pitch. Both Chute and Lien were waiting on second and third base, respectively, when Brink drove in the Vikings' run(s). She singled and advanced to second on the throw.
Â
The Tars answered with just a single run in the bottom of the fourth as
Ashley Mickschl picked up the win, throwing five innings.
Olivia Hazelbaker earned the save with two innings of relief.
Â
However, it was Brink's day at the plate with a 2-for-3 batting line and three RBI. She was aided with those RBI by Chute reaching base on a 2-for-3 day. The Vikings also got hits from
Mary Pardo and
Amanda Dickmeyer.
Â
Game Two: Rollins 7, Augustana 1
It was an uncharacteristic fifth inning that doomed the Vikings as the home Tars plated five runs. However, it was the Vikings who struck first.
Â
Mary Pardo rounded the bases after being sent to first base on an opening pitch, hit-by-pitch. She advanced to second on a single by
Liz Dierks and scored on a
Delaney Young single into right field.
Â
Rollins answered back in the third inning with a pair of runs with the first coming on a fielder's choice and the second on a sacrifice fly.
Â
The fifth inning got away from the Vikings on a pair of RC home runs accounting for all five runs.
Â
Augustana's offense manufactured just two hits, the first inning singles from Dierks and Young.
