BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Augustana athletics department has won the 2021-22 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Sports Award the league announced Thursday. The Vikings earn the all-sports award for the sixth time since joining the NSIC in the 2008-09 academic year.
Â
The Vikings tallied 226.3 points to claim the title, and nearly 30 points ahead of second place Minnesota State.
Â
"We couldn't be prouder of our student-athletes and the way they compete," Augustana Director of Athletics
Josh Morton said. "These awards are symbolic of the broad-based excellence that we continue to achieve within our athletics department and on our campus.
Â
"It is even more impressive when you consider we are also academic leaders within the NSIC as well."
Â
In addition to the overall All-Sports Award, Augustana also claimed the men's and women's championships. The gender-specific awards have been awarded since 2017-18 and the Vikings become the first NSIC school to sweep all three awards.
Â
The Viking men totaled 96.3 points over the academic year, flying past Minnesota State who recorded 73 points. The Viking women recorded 130 points to finish ahead of Minnesota State's 123.5.
Â
Augustana won eight regular-season NSIC Championships throughout the academic year, including football, men's & women's cross country, men's basketball, baseball, softball, women's golf and women's tennis. In the spring alone, Augustana captured four of those championships out of a possible seven spring championships.
Â
The AU athletics department has now earned the all-sports award in 2010-11, 2011-12, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2021-22. Augustana also claims the 2019-20 title although it was not officially awarded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
