Viking Soccer Back in Action this Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Augustana soccer hosts Washburn at Morstad Field on Friday, then travels to Missouri Western for a Sunday matchup to split the weekend in home and road contests. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. on Friday at home and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Ichabods

In the MIAA Preseason Poll, Washburn was selected to finish eighth in a field of 12 teams. The Ichabods finished the 2021 season 9-7-2 and reached the quarterfinals of the MIAA tournament.

Washburn has two contests under its belt after defeating Oklahoma Baptist and William Jewell to start the season 2-0. The Ichabods have totaled eight goals against opponents this season. 

Jaedyn Johnson and Belle Kennedy lead Washburn with two goals each. Johnson leads the team with five points after adding an assist on one of Kennedy's goals.

The Griffons 

Missouri Western was selected to finish fifth in the MIAA Preseason Poll. The team finished the season in fifth place last year, holding a record of 9-8-2.

MWSU holds a record of 0-2 this season after losses to Texas A&M International and St. Mary's (Texas). Jaden Skinner tallied the only goal of the season thus far for the Griffons in the 1-3 loss to St. Marys. 

MWSU enters the Sunday contest having played Southwest Minnesota State on Friday.

The Vikings

Augustana soccer started the season with a 1-1 draw against Fort Hays State. Grace Douglas scored the lone Vikings goal.

Augustana soccer was selected to finish third in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vikings received three votes and 199 points in the poll while Sylvia Fehr and Jillian Barkus were named the Vikings Players to Watch.

The team held a conference record of 12-1-2 and an overall record of 14-4-2 in 2021. Augustana tallied 42 goals against NSIC opponents and the Vikings were unbeaten at home.

Fehr, an NSIC All-Conference Second Team honoree, led the team last season with 15 assists and holds the program record for most assists in a single season. Totaling 19 assists in her career as a Viking, Fehr has tied the program record for career assists.

Jillian Barkus, also an NSIC All-Conference Second-Team honoree, made 19 starts during the 2021 season and recorded 10 shutouts in goal.
