Augustana Volleyball Falls to No. 4 St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Augustana volleyball team fell to the No. 4 Huskies of St. Cloud State in three sets Saturday afternoon (25-23, 25-15, 25-19).

The Vikings are now 10-4 on the season with a 2-4 record in NSIC play. The Huskies are now 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in the loop.

Augustana opened set one with a kill hammered home by senior Maddy Guetter. The Vikings pulled away early with a 4-1 run that was mirrored by the Huskies to keep the teams neck-and-neck. A final kill from St. Cloud State's Sam Zimmerman secured the Huskies set one.

The Huskies came out hot in the second set hitting an efficient .371 compared to the Vikings .061 attack percentage. St. Cloud State errors allowed the Vikings to stay in it but a mid-set 10-1 run by St. Cloud State gave the Huskies room to pull ahead and grasp set two.

The third and final set was opened with a heated up AU offense with kills from Guetter and senior Kate Reimann to match the Huskies efficiency. St. Cloud State fired back with a 4-0 run mid-set to pull ahead with the lead. Back-to-back aces by senior Erika Bute kept the Vikings alive but a final kill from the Huskies Linsey Rachel secured the set and match point for the Huskies.

Overall, the Vikings were led by Reimann with 10 kills and 10.5 points. Followed closely behind Reimann was Guetter who reigned in eight kills and 9.5 points while collecting one ace and one block to aid the Vikings offense.

On the defensive side, Bute rallied home 11 digs and two back-to-back aces. Senior Piper Asche led AU in total blocks with three while adding 3.5 points to the Vikings offense.
