Viking Women’s Hoops Falls to Northern State on Friday

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Augustana women's basketball team fell to the Wolves of Northern State, 62-60, in Aberdeen on Friday night. The Vikings move to a 12-3 overall record with a 6-3 record within the NSIC. NSU moves to an 8-6 overall record while being 3-5 in the loop.

Aislinn Duffy found her stride early scoring all 10 of Augustana's first points. In the first quarter alone Duffy collected 10 points, two rebounds and one steal to be the front runner for both benches. Augustana found an early 4-0 lead until NSU responded with a 5-0 run to pull off its first lead of the night. The Vikings and Wolves stayed neck-and-neck through the majority of the first quarter, until a late 8-2 run from AU pulled the Vikings ahead 21-17.

Duffy continued her scoring into the second quarter seeing the first four points for Augustana with back-to-back layups. Lauren Sees followed in suit with two of her own back-to-back baskets to pull the Vikings up by six. A last second 3-pointer from Jennifer Aadland sent Augustana into halftime with a 10-point advantage at 35-25.

Duffy led the squad during the first half with 16 points while adding on two rebounds and two assists. Aby Phipps and Kenzie Rensch both had four rebounds in the first half while tacking on two steals from Rensch and two assists from Phipps.

Second half scoring started slow for both squads with a basket apiece coming within the first 20 seconds of play followed by over a two minute scoring drought. Sees ended the scoring drought for the Vikings knocking down a jumper just short of the 3-point line. AU would take on a late 6-2 run that was ended by a last second 3-pointer from NSU to pull the Wolves short of eight-points.

Northern State clawed back in the fourth quarter scoring 21-points over Augustana's 11. The Vikings and Wolves traded points back-and-forth until a late 17-2 run by the Wolves. Two points from the charity stripe for Duffy broke up the scoring run from Northern State. A final layup from NSU with one second on the clock sealed the deal for the Wolves.

Overall, Augustana was led in scoring by Duffy with 20 points while adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sees led the way in rebounds with eight.
