Augustana Softball Hosts Sioux Falls at Bowden Field Tuesday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana softball team returns to Bowden Field Tuesday to host Sioux Falls in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The contests mark the fifth and sixth games at the new Bowden Field which opened this year to much fanfare.

About the Cougars
Sioux Falls is 14-15 on the season and 5-5 in the NSIC after getting swept by MSU Moorhead last time out. That snapped a three-game win streak with wins over Concordia-St. Paul and Northern State.
 
Megan Lawson has led USF in batting average this season at .354 while the power of the lineup comes from Kait Van Der Zwaag with her five home runs and 21 RBI. In the circle, Van Der Zwaag is the team's top pitcher with a 9-5 record and a 4.53 ERA.
 
About the Vikings
Augustana owns a 21-10 record in 2023 and is 8-2 within the NSIC. The Vikings have won six of eight including a road trip to Minot, North Dakota, that saw AU capture 3-of-4 games. In the games, Torri Chute batted .500 with four of her six hits going for doubles. Hailey Houston was 2-0 with a stellar 1.27 ERA.
 
For the season, Delaney Young leads Augustana in average at .389 while she has recorded 13 doubles and three home runs. Kennedy Buckman leads the team with 11 home runs and 32 RBI while holding a .356 average.
 
In the circle, Houston has continued her stellar sophomore campaign with an 11-2 record and 2.28 ERA. She has won 10-straight starts to lead the pitching corps.
 
One Last Thing
Augustana has been strong with hitting doubles in 2023. The Vikings rank sixth in the country with 2.03 doubles per game. Chute is tops on the team with 14 doubles while Young is just behind with 13 doubles. The duo ranks first and second in the NSIC in the category while ranking 18th and 29th, respectively, in NCAA Division II.
