SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana Director of Athletics Josh Morton has announced the winners of the 2023 Spring Semester of the AD's Academic Achievement Award. For the fifth-straight semester, the Viking men's cross country team earned the honor while the AU women's golf team garnered the honor for the second time.
"Competitive excellence and distinction in the classroom. Two of the pillars of our philosophy statement and I'm proud to have these two teams represent us taking home the award," Morton said.
The award, first handed out in the 2020-21 academic year, honors the top men's and women's team GPA for each semester. The women's golf team recorded a 3.84 GPA while the men's cross country squad held a 3.51 GPA.
The women's golf team is coming off a year in which it claimed the 13
th conference championship in program history and 12
th of the last 13 years. The Vikings then placed runner-up in the central region to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships. For the 2022-23 academic year, the women's golf team also carried the highest GPA amongst all the Viking athletics programs with a 3.835.
The men's cross country team claimed its third-straight NSIC Championship this past fall while placing seventh at the national meet.
