EDMOND, Okla. – Augustana women's tennis took part in the ITA Division II Women's Central Regional Championships last weekend.

"It was a good tournament for the women and I was happy that I got to watch the Freshmen play." said head coach Marc Kutz. "We were a little behind other teams as we started school later and were behind on practices but I'm happy with our results and really excited for the year. Florentia had an awesome tournament run by winning five singles matches, beating two nationally ranked players and making it to the finals."

Florentia Hadjigeorgiou captured a second place finish in the women's open singles Flight A, as she positioned herself for an at-large bid for nationals. After making quick work through the round of 16 Hadjigeorgiou went on a tear through the quarterfinals as she beat Nebraska-Kearney's Melisa Becerra by a score of 6-2, 6(5)-7(7), 10-3. She continued her momentum as she defeated Maja Jung of Washburn by a score of 6(3)-7(7),6-2, 10-3. Hadjigeorgiou eventually fell in the finals to Jazmin Zamorano of Nebraska-Kearney by a score of 2-6, 0-6.

Viking newcomer Mia Garcia made a name for herself as she secured a spot in the round of 16 by defeating Northeastern State's Tegan Heaton in the round of 64, Isabella Martensson of Washburn in the round of 32, before falling to Cristina Granero Boj of Missouri Western in the round of 16.

Graduate Student Aleksandra Kistanova made waves in the round of 64 as she scored a 6-2, 6-4 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State's Larissa Giraldi Correa. Kistanova eventually fell to Washburn's Maja Jung in the round of 32 by a score of 4-6, 2-6.

Viking women's tennis will take the next few months to prepare for their spring season.
