Viking Hockey Heads to Omaha for Weekend Series

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana hockey (1-1, 0-0 CCHA) hits the road to faceoff against No. 12 Omaha (2-0, 0-0 NCHC) on Friday and Saturday inside Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. Augustana and Omaha played in a home-and-home series last season with the Mavericks winning both games.

The Mavericks
No. 12 Omaha opened up the 2024-25 season in the 2024 Ice Breaker Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada where the Mavericks beat No. 14 UMass and No. 5 Minnesota in back-to-back overtime affairs. 

Junior defenseman Jacob Guevin led the Mavericks over the weekend with three points by way of one goal and two assists. Zach Urdahl, Jacob Slipec and Sam Strange also scored goals over the weekend. 

The Vikings
Augustana opened up the regular season on home ice last weekend against Long Island University. The Vikings opened up the season with a 4-0 win Friday night before they dropped Saturday's match 3-2. 

Owen Bohn, Luke Mobley, Colton Friesen and Evan McIntyre collected goals in Friday's win. Bohn and Mobley scored the lone two goals in Saturday's loss. Brett Meerman tallied three assists over the weekend affairs with two on Friday and one on Saturday. Payton Matsui and Tyler Hennen also found the scoresheet with two assists each. 

Josh Kotai manned the pipes over the weekend series. He made 29 saves and collected his first collegiate shutout in Augustana's 4-0 win and made 30 saves in the 3-2 loss Saturday night.
