MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Augustana hockey team (3-4, 0-1 CCHA) fell to St. Thomas (2-3-1, 1-0 CCHA) by a score of 4-0 in conference play, Friday night. The Tommies opened up the scoring in the second period and kept their foot on the pedal to seal the win.
Augustana and St. Thomas battled back and forth throughout the first period as both teams shared possession of the puck. The Vikings recorded six shots in the first 20 minutes of play.
13 minutes into the second period, St. Thomas opened up the scoring with a goal from Casey Laylin who fired the puck through traffic to find the back of the net. Two minutes later, Matthew Gleason added his name to the scoresheet with his first of the night off a rebound from a Liam Malmquist shot.
The Tommies continued its momentum into the third period with a goal from Lucas Wahlin off a breakaway opportunity. Shortly after St. Thomas' goal,
Tyler Hennen was pinned with a five-minute major and a game misconduct for head contact. After a successful penalty kill, Gleason netted his second of the night on an empty netter to seal the win for St. Thomas.
