BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Augustana hockey team (5-6, 2-3 CCHA) fell Friday night to Ferris State (4-9-2, 3-6 CCHA) in the R.L. Ewigleben Sports Complex. A comeback effort in the second period by the Vikings fell short as Ferris State scored two goals in the third to seal its fourth win.
Ferris State jumped out to an early lead as Matt Corbet found the back of the net off a rebound on the power play. Corbet's goal came 8:32 into the period as the Bulldogs started to gain momentum. Jacob Dirks pushed FSU's lead to two with just over four minutes to play in the frame as he buried his first of the season in front of the net. Augustana turned the tide in the final minute of the frame but Ferris State led 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.Â
Augustana carried its last-minute momentum into the second period as
Joey DelGreco netted his fourth of the season on the power play off a shot from
Payton Matsui. DelGreco's goal carried energy into Augustana's second power play opportunity as
Hunter Bischoff deked through a Bulldogs' defenseman and backhanded past Noah West to tie the game at 2-2. The game remained tied for just over 10 minutes before Caiden Gault regained Ferris State's lead with 21.4 seconds remaining in the second period.Â
Ferris State's late second-period period goal carried energy into the third period as Logan Heroux netted his first of the season on the power play. The Bulldogs continued to pile on as Tyler Schleppe pushed Ferris State's lead to three. A late major penalty was called on
Easton Young, forcing Augustana to finish the final three minutes of play on the penalty kill as Ferris State won 5-2.
