FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Augustana hockey team (9-6, 5-3 CCHA) spoiled Alaska Fairbanks (4-8-3) return to the Carlson Center with a 3-1 win Friday night.
Nace Langus powered the Vikings' offense with his first multi-goal night while
Josh Kotai manned the pipes with 26 saves as he moved to 9-4 on the season.
Augustana opened up the action late in the first period as
Nace Langus received a pass from
Uula Ruikka as he opened up his backhand to go short-side high on the Nanooks goaltender. Langus' second goal of the season came on the power play. The Vikings continued on the attack as they led in shots 8-2 by the buzzer.
In a penalty-riddled second period, Alaska Fairbanks equalized the game on the power play with 11:47 remaining in the frame. Broten Sabo wired in his fourth of the season in the early seconds of the man advantage. Augustana answered back nine minutes later as Langus tipped in his second of the night off a shot from
Brady Ziemer who received a dish from
Simon Falk along the board.
Both programs battled throughout the final frame and shared offensive momentum. The Nanooks called a timeout in the final minute of play and pulled its netminder. In the dying seconds of the third period, Ruikka pushed the puck through the neutral zone and found
Hunter Bischoff who sealed the 3-1 for the Vikings.
