MANKATO, Minn. – Despite four players in double-figure scoring, including 22 from
Michaela Jewett, the No. 17-ranked Minnesota State women's basketball team slipped past Augustana, 97-75.
Jewett recorded 22 points and seven rebounds, both team highs, while
Jennifer Aadland totaled 17 points.
Lauren Sees and
Aby Phipps joined the duo in double-figure scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
In the early going, a 3-point basket from Aadland gave Augustana a 5-3 lead. On the Mavericks' ensuing possession, a pair of free throws knotted the game at five-all.
Midway through the opening quarter, Augustana again held an advantage, this time at 12-11 as Jewett sank a jumper from just outside the paint.
Minnesota State regained its lead on a second-chance basket. From there, the league's lone ranked team flexed its muscles to open a seven-point advantage at the end of the first quarter at 24-17.
After a layup from Sees opened the second quarter, the Mavericks pushed their lead to 12 points and entered halftime holding a 48-33 advantage.
Minnesota State continued to build on its lead in the third and fourth quarters, with the final score sitting at 97-75.
Augustana shot 44.1 percent from the field for the game, sinking 26-of-59 shot attempts with a quarter best of 50 percent in the opening frame. AU out-rebounded MSU 39-37.
The Vikings remain on the road next weekend with contests at Minnesota Crookston on Friday and MSU Moorhead on Saturday.
