SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – It was heartbreak for the Augustana women's basketball team in a 60-57 loss to Northern State Friday night.
The Vikings held a lead for nearly 32 minutes of the contest including a 30-25 advantage at halftime.
Lauren Sees tallied 10 of her 16 points in the opening half.
The third quarter saw the Vikings (7-18, 6-15 NSIC) take off to an 11-point advantage with an 8-2 run to start the quarter. After the two teams traded baskets to open the third stanza,
Johanna Miller made a hook shot in the paint followed by a driving layup from
Jennifer Aadland to make the score 36-27.
Miller then made a pair of free throws for the 38-27 advantage with 6:27 to go in the quarter.
The Vikings' lead grew to 15 points, again with a helping hand from Miller. She hit the and-one as
CJ Adamson dished to Miller for a layup. After the made free throw, AU led 48-33 with 1:20 to go in the third quarter.
The Wolves (20-7, 16-5 NSIC) slowly chipped away at AU's advantage in the final frame, knotting things up at 51-all with 2:36 to go in the contest.
Again, the two teams traded baskets with a combined six points scored in the final 30 seconds. However, it was free throws from Northern State at the end of the game to steal the win, 60-57.
Sees tallied 16 points while Miller had 11. Aadland just missed on a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.
Augustana will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday with a pregame ceremony prior to the 3:30 p.m. tipoff. At 3:30, AU will host UMary in the regular season finale.
