BOX SCORE SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Augustana softball team dropped its lone game on Monday, 5-2, at Drury. The Vikings fell behind in the third inning and could not overcome the deficit.
Â
Augustana is now 10-7 on the year while Drury is 11-12.
Â
Augustana took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Torri Chute.
Desi Cuevas singled into right field and was advanced to second after
Gracey Brink was hit by a pitch. She was then pushed to third base thanks to a single by
Kennedy Buckman.
Â
That set up Chute to sacrifice Cuevas home as the fly out went to left field.
Â
The home team took the lead in the third inning after scoring a trio of unearned runs.
Â
Augustana got a run back in the top of the fourth with runners on first and third. Coach Melsted sent the back runner,
Desi Cuevas, to second base for the steal. The Panthers catch threw a short ball to the second baseman in a cut-off play to catch the runner at third, but the ball sailed. That allowed
Liz Dierks to saunter home.
Â
Drury added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning which would show the final score of 5-2.
Â
Augustana totaled eight hits on the day with a 3-for-3 effort from
Ashton Dorman.
Kennedy Buckman went 2-for-4.
Â
Helene Krage started in the circle for AU giving up four hits while
