SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana Vice President for Athletics Josh Morton is pleased to announce the addition of Sydney Smith to the Vikings' athletics communications office. Smith will join the department as the new assistant director of communications and will cover volleyball, wrestling, women's basketball and softball. 

Smith arrives in Sioux Falls after spending two years in Brookings, South Dakota as an athletics communications intern with South Dakota State. Over her two years with the Jackrabbits she led communication efforts for the cross country and track and field teams while assisting with football, volleyball, softball and basketball. 

In addition to her time with SDSU, Smith worked as an on-site sports information contact with the Summit League Championships, arranging local and national media coverage. She has also worked two NCAA Basketball Tournaments and one NCAA Softball Tournament. 

Smith earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from South Dakota State in December 2022. 

Smith began her duties with Augustana on Monday.
