Augustana Volleyball Honored with AVCA Team Academic Award

7/17/2024 3:55:00 PM

LEXINGTON, Ky – The Augustana volleyball team has earned the 2023-24 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, the AVCA and INTENT announced Wednesday.

This is the eighth year in a row that Augustana has earned this award. The Vikings finished the 2023-24 school year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.86.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 or a 5.0 scale. Augustana is one of more than 1,400 teams to earn the award in 2023-24.

The Viking volleyball squad also earned the Team Academic Honor Roll distinction, which celebrates programs in the top 20% of GPAs for their division.

"I am beyond proud of and am in awe of our players and their ability to stay focused on their academics," said Augustana volleyball head coach Jennifer Jacobs. "The season can become very busy amidst other demands they juggle and they still thrive academically. Receiving the AVCA Team Academic Award and Team Academic Honor Roll recognitions are priceless."

Viking volleyball will begin the 2024 season by hosting the Augustana Classic Sept. 5 through 7, with the first match-up slated against South Dakota School of Mines.
