Viking Soccer Prepares for Three-Game Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana soccer (1-1-1) prepares for a heavy week of matches with a home non-conference match against Northwest Missouri on Wednesday before hitting the road to start NSIC play against Winona State and Minnesota State.

The Bearcats
NWMSU holds a 1-1-3 record going into the week. The Bearcats come off back-to-back draws against ranked teams in Grand Valley State and Minnesota State. 

Northwest Missouri State tallied its first of the year by a score of 3-1 to Southwest Baptist. Ekaterina Theoharidis tallied one goal and one assist for a total of three points in the win. 

Theoharidis leads the Bearcats with seven points by way of three goals and one assist. Ximena Arnau is the second-highest-scoring Bearcat with three goals for six points. 

The Warriors
WSU comes into the weekend with a 1-0-1 record and hosts the Vikings on Friday at 5 p.m.. Winona State played to a 2-2 draw against Upper Iowa to start out the season. It bounced back with a 1-0 win of Wisconsin Parkside. 

Abigail Williams recorded the lone goal in WSU's win over Wisconsin Parkside. Williams leads the Warriors with two goals for four points. Madelyn Dasher and Jacey Sturek round out the top three scorers. 

The Mavericks
Minnesota State holds a 1-1-2 record coming into the weekend and hosts Augustana on Sunday at 1 p.m.. 

MSU opened up the season with a 3-0 win over Emporia State before drawing to West Florida 0-0. It hit the road for the first time in the season and dropped a 1-0 match to then No. 4 Central Missouri and finished out the weekend with a 0-0 draw to Northwest Missouri State.

The Mavericks are led by Jade Jackson, Avery Korsching and Ashlyn Watt with two points each. All three Mavericks connected in the 3-0 win over ESU. 

The Vikings
Augustana played to a 0-0 draw to Fort Hays State during its home opener last weekend. The Vikings dominated play with 15 shots, with five finding their way on target. During the second half of last Friday's match, Augustana tallied nine shots in the second half. 

Aaliyah Matthews stopped two shots in the draw bringing her season total to nine. Macie Haggerty leads the Vikings with one goal and one assist for a team-high three points. Sierra Barkus and Madelyn White round out the top three scorers with one goal each for two points. 

Augustana holds a 1-1-1 record coming into the week. The Vikings dropped its season opener to then No. 21 Central Missouri by a score of 4-2. AU bounced back on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a 1-0 win over Rogers State. In its most recent affair, Augustana played to a 0-0 draw in its home opener.
