SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana Vikings had its six-game win streak snapped, falling 82-77 to No. 14 Minot State on Saturday afternoon inside the Elmen Center.
With the loss, the Vikings move to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in the NSIC. The Beavers snap a three-game losing streak and jump to 18-3, 9-3.
Tanner Te Slaa scored a career-high 24 points while leading the team with four assists. Off the bench,
Kelton Coleman scored 18 points on 7 of 9 shooting while jolting the offense.
Sam Rensch added 12 points and four steals while
Bennett Fried had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Tameron Ferguson finished the night with 11 points on 5 of 10 shooting.
The opening segment was all Beavers as the Vikings fell behind 12-0. Ferguson scored the first AU bucket with 14:59 left in the half and started a 9-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Rensch, to get the Vikings within 14-9 with 11:52 to go until half.
The five point Beaver lead fell to two when Ferguson knocked down a 3-pointer to get within 22-20 at the 6:20 mark. Minot made a layup to go back ahead by four and Te Slaa followed with a 5-0 run on his own for the first AU lead of the day at 25-24 with 4:20 left in the first half.
Following a 3-pointer to give Minot the lead back at 27-25, the Vikings caught fire. A Te Slaa and-one put AU back in front. Coleman followed with a 3-pointer and after a pair of Beaver free throws, Coleman got inside and finished a layup and Te Slaa knocked down a 3-pointer on the next AU possession to go ahead 36-29 with 1:35 to go. The Beavers closed in, scoring the final four points of the half to make it 36-33 in favor of AU into the locker room.
Fried opened the second half scoring with an and-one before the Beavers wiped it away with a 3-pointer. Akoi followed that up with a layup but a 6-0 Minot run jolted the Beavers back in front at 42-41 with 16:59 left in the game.
Augustana went right back in front after a Fried offensive rebound led to a Coleman 3-pointer and Fried knocked one down of his own to go ahead five points. The Beavers took control of the next six minutes with an 18-5 run for a 60-52 lead with 9:06 remaining.
A Te Slaa 3-pointer silenced the run and put the Vikings back within five. The game went back and forth for the next five minutes before a Minot 3-pointer put them ahead eight with 4:21 to play. Seven Coleman points in the next three minutes helped lead a 13-6 run as the Vikings scratched and clawed back within 79-77. The Beavers would score the final three points of the game to bring us to the final score.
The Vikings hit the road next weekend, starting with a 5:30 p.m., tip-off next Friday at MSU Moorhead.
