DULUTH, Minn. – The Augustana hockey team (0-1, 0-0 CCHA) fell to Minnesota Duluth (3-0, 0-0 NCHC) on Friday night in AMSOIL Arena. A second-period offensive surge from the Bulldogs carried momentum till the final buzzer.
Augustana opened up the first period with an early power play that was squandered by the Bulldogs. The Vikings' momentum continued throughout the opening 10 minutes of action. Minnesota Duluth answered back with pressure and ended the period on top in shots on goal, 12-8.
Action picked up early in the second period as Scott Truman opened up the scoring for the Bulldogs with a shot towards the goal that was blocked by an Augustana defenseman before trickling in the cage. Less than a minute later, Ty Hanson ripped in a shot from the point through traffic to give UMD a 2-0 lead. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the frame, Callum Arnott fired in a power play goal off the stick of Grayden Siepmann. Minnesota Duluth's offensive presence continued as Max Plante received a pass from Zam Plante that he sneaked past the glove of
Josh Kotai. UMD led 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.
UMD's strong second period carried into the third period with a barrage of shots that Kotai turned away. Augustana found the back of the net with just under five minutes to play in the third period as
Hayden Hennen connected with
Tyler Hennen for a one-timer on the power play. H. Hennen held the puck from leaving the zone before finding his brother at the top of the circle.Â
