SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team completed the weekend sweep over No. 15/16 Arizona State on Saturday night with a 5-2 win. Five different Vikings found the back of the net to lead the offensive momentum.
Jacob Jastrzebski got the Vikings on the board first with his first career goal from the slot.
Owen Bohn and
Tyler Hennen worked the puck in the offensive zone before finding Jastrzebski. Arizona State ran into penalty trouble eight minutes into the frame but held off Augustana's man advantage. With six minutes remaining in the period, Cruz Lucius tied the game with his fifth of the season. Augustana outshot the Sun Devils, 11-7, through the first 20 minutes of play.
Nine minutes into the second period,
Leo Bulgakov worked the puck up the half wall to find
Hayden Hennen open on the point. H. Hennen walked the line and fired in a shot to put Augustana up 2-1. The Vikings found themselves shorthanded with less than four minutes to play in the period as
Colton Friesen was dinged with a minor penalty. While shorthanded,
Hunter Bischoff skated the puck up the length of the ice and fired in a wrister from the top of the circle for his third of the season.
Early in the final frame, ASU's Lucius powered in his sixth of the season while on the power play to cut Augustana's lead to one. Six minutes later,
Cole Burtch netted his first as a Viking off a rebound from T. Hennen. The Sun Devils pulled their goalie with just over four minutes to play in the frame and they looked to close the score.
Owen Baumgartner delivered the final dagger with an empty net goal from the AU blueline to secure the weekend sweep with a 5-2 win.
