Postseason Begins As Cross Country Readies For NSIC Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Both Augustana cross country teams are set to head south, traveling to Wayne, Neb., for the NSIC Championships, hosted by Wayne State, on Friday. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at noon followed by the men's 8,000-meter race at 1:15 p.m.

The Augustana men hold the No. 25 spot in the national polls heading into the meet. The women are looking for their fourth title in the past five seasons and 11th conference championship overall, while the men look for their sixth consecutive title and their 15th conference championship in the past 16 seasons. 
 
The women of Augustana last finished a meet at the Holiday Inn Express Classic in Sioux Center, Iowa, placing fourth with 101 points. Ramsey Karim was the highest-placing Viking, finishing 10th with a time of 21:42.07. Ally Sample came in 13th with a time of 21:46.98 while Kaelyn Nelson (21:59.78, 22nd) and Tenley Nelson (22:07.71, 24th) each placed in the top 25.

The No. 25 nationally-ranked men of Augustana scored 30 points on their way to a victory, edging out South Dakota State for the victory. Bryant Keller earned NSIC Athlete of the Week after placing third with a time of 24:30.33. Right behind Keller was Kadin Groen, whose time of 24:30.98 was good for fourth. Peyton Willbanks placed sixth with a time of 24:42.55, Isaiah Anderson was eighth in 24:44.36 and 24:47.29 was enough for Tyson Ricker to place ninth.
 
The next action for Vikings following the NSIC Championships will be the NCAA Central Regional in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday, Nov. 8. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, also in Kenosha, Wis.
