ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Augustana volleyball team (8-6 overall, 2-4 NSIC) fell 25-23, 25-16, 25-12 to the No. 11 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears (10-3, 6-0) on Friday night at the Gangelhoff Center.
Brooke Berens had a team-high eight kills while
Sydney Tims added seven.
Kiylah Franke led the team with six digs and 24 assists while recording the only solo block.
After falling behind 4-3 in the early stages of set one, the Vikings scored five straight points to take an 8-4 lead. After a
Lucy Cogan ace made it 12-7, CSP scored seven of the next nine points to even the match at 14-14. With the Golden Bears looking to run away leading 23-18, a 5-0 run from the Vikings gave them life and evened the scoring. CSP planted their flag in set one with the final two points to take a 1-0 lead.
The second set started with a 6-1 jolt from the Golden Bears to put them in firm position. From there, their lead never dipped below four points, with their final four point lead coming at 14-10. CSP went on to score six of the next seven points and capped the set with the last two points to take a 2-0 advantage into the break.
Set three opened with ties at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 5-5 and 6-6 before a 11-1 run shot the Golden Bears in front 17-7. After leading 18-9, CSP dominated with seven of the final 10 points to close out the match.
Augustana returns to action on Saturday afternoon, taking on Winona State at 5 p.m., on the road.
