MOORHEAD, Minn. - The No. 11 Augustana wrestling team won its third consecutive conference dual on Friday afternoon, knocking off MSU Moorhead 34-6 at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
Christian Olsen started a dominant night at 125 pounds with a pair of first period takedowns before taking a 13-2 lead into the third period. He held off a four-point period for Clayson Mele but took a riding point to close out a major decision.
In a slower-moving bout,
Brandon Board earned a takedown in the second period and a riding point in the third period for a 4-0 decision to make it 7-0 Augustana. After a loss at 141 pounds,
Nolan Ambrose got the team back on track with a second period pin to put the Vikings back in the win column.
At 157 pounds,
Cael Larson battled to a decision. Leading 5-3 in the third period, Larson exchanged a takedown and escape to hold off a rally before adding a riding point to close out the win.
Payton Handevidt made quick work of the next bout, earning a pin in 2:11 of action to make it 22-3.
Coy Gunderson was dominant at 174 pounds, earning a pair of takedowns, an escape and a riding point to win 8-2.
Josh Wagener followed it with four takedowns in a major decision and
Max Ramberg capped the winning with three takedowns and two four-point nearfalls for a first-period tech fall.
The Vikings return to action on Dec. 19, hosting No. 1-ranked Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m., inside the Elmen Center.
