Men's Basketball Finishes 2025 With Wire-To-Wire Win Over CSP

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana men's basketball team closed the 2025 calendar year with a 82-69 wire-to-wire victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday afternoon at the Elmen Center.

The Vikings (8-4, 6-1 NSIC) shot 49.1 percent from the field and knocked down 10 3-pointers while limiting the Golden Bears (8-5, 3-4) to 37.5 percent shooting and 8 of 31 shooting from deep.

Tameron Ferguson led the Vikings with 22 points, five assists and two steals. Tanner Te Slaa added 15 points and 10 rebounds, his first double double of the season, and Caden Hinker scored 12 points. Amari Westmoreland-Vendiola was a spark off the bench, scoring seven points and grabbing seven boards while Bennett Fried and Markus Talley each had seven points apiece.

Hinker and Te Slaa opened the game with 3-pointers and Ferguson got a layup off a Sam Rensch steal to get the Vikings off to an 8-0 start. After a CSP layup, Hinker had five points in a 9-2 Viking run to give AU a 17-4 lead at the 16:18 mark of the first half.

After CSP chipped back within nine points, Westmoreland-Vendiola knocked down a jumper to restart the offense. Hinker followed with a layup and Fried knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 29-13 with 9:36 to go in the half.

The final nine minutes of the quarter saw 19 CSP points and 18 AU points to get the Golden Bears within 47-32 at half. The Vikings shot 16 of 30 from the field and 7 of 16 from deep in the first half while holding CSP to 10 of 31 shooting from the field and 3 of 16 from deep. Hinker led with 12 points and Ferguson had 11 while Te Slaa added eight.

CSP opened the second half scoring with a layup before four Te Slaa points and a Ferguson layup grew the Viking lead to 53-34 with 16:40 to play. That lead fell to 15 before a Te Slaa 3-pointer at the 13:07 mark to make it 65-47 AU.

Talley knocked down a 3-pointer after a CSP bucket and Ferguson got a layup to go, stretching the lead to 70-49. In the final 10:25 of play, the Vikings extended possessions and spent time winding the clock, getting outscored 20-12 but limiting possessions to help bring the game to its final score.

The Vikings will return to the court in 2026, welcoming Wayne State to the Elmen Center on Jan. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
