SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - After a back-and-forth game, the Augustana women's basketball ultimately fell to the Golden Bears 80-67.
With the loss, the Vikings are now 4-8 overall and 1-6 in the NSIC while the Golden Bears improve to 7-5, 3-5.
Kristin Edmonds led the Vikings with 16 points, going 4 for 5 beyond the 3-point line.
Clarissa Sauer added 9 to the points column.
Addie Hanna contributed 12 points before fouling out while
Payton Hardy garnered 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Ava Pautz also added 7 rebounds and 7 points.
Edmonds started off hot for the Vikings with six points on a pair of 3-pointers. As a whole, the Vikings started off 4 for 4 beyond the arc led by Edmonds' two and Hardy and Sauer each added one. The Golden Bears did not fall to the hot start for the Vikings, outscoring AU 16-14 at the first media timeout.
Out of the timeout, Edmonds hit yet another three pointer to put the Vikings ahead. After back and forth scoring Concordia led 24-19 at the end of the 1st quarter. Edmonds ended the quarter leading the team with 11 points. Hardy added three rebounds to the stat line.
Augustana started the second quarter like the first with a three-pointer from Edmonds after CSP scored a bucket. The Golden Bears outhustled the Vikings and went on 14-2 run through the first seven minutes of the second quarter. The Vikings trailed by nine going into halftime with Edmonds leading all scorers with 14 points. Hardy added four points and five rebounds while
Mia Donald added five points and four rebounds.
Sauer started this quarter for the Vikings with a layup to put herself at five points on the night. Baskets went back and forth until the media timeout. The Vikings scored 10 points to Concordia's nine in the first five and a half minutes of the game. Out of the timeout, the Vikings could not get many shots to fall but kept close to the Golden Bears with them leading 59-50.
CSP started the final quarter with a three but Hardy answered back with her second three-pointer of the night. Elliott gathered her fifth foul of the game with seven minutes left, ending the game with four points.
Addie Hanna found a spark in the fourth quarter scoring 7 of her 12 points on the night. Hanna also gathered her fifth foul of the night putting out her scoring spark in the fourth quarter. After a miss and two fouls in the final minutes, the Vikings were held to five points scored.
