ABERDEEN, S.D. - The No. 12 Augustana wrestling team won eight consecutive bouts to knock off Northern State 26-6 on Thursday afternoon at Wachs Arena. The Vikings move to 1-2 on the season in duals while the Wolves fall to 0-1.

After a pair of decisions set the Vikings back early, Luke Koenen earned the first of three ranked victories for AU. With the score tied 1-1 in the second period, Koenen recorded a takedown and allowed an escape to take a 3-2 lead into the third. He took control early, recording a reversal before a takedown iced the win and got the Vikings on the board.

Nolan Ambrose kept it rolling at 149 pounds, knocking off the No. 10 ranked wrestler in his class. After falling behind 3-1 after a period, Ambrose collected an escape and two takedowns to take a lead into the third period. He went onto record a pair of escapes and a takedown in the third to take a decision and even the match at 6-6.

Kyle Boeke had a low scoring affair at 157 pounds, leading 1-0 into the third. After allowing an escape to even the bout, Boeke seized control with a takedown and added a riding point to give AU a 9-6 lead into the intermission.

Payton Handevidt earned the first bonus point of the night when he picked up three takedowns, an escape and a riding point to take an 11-2 major decision at 165 pounds. Coy Gunderson kept it rolling at 174 with a second period escape and third period takedown for a decision to make it 16-6.

Josh Wagener sealed the win at 184 pounds. With the score tied at 0-0 into the third period, Wagener recorded a takedown to hold off an escape and riding point to win by 3-2 decision and increase the lead to 19-6.

Max Ramberg made his season debut at 197 pounds and didn't skip a beat. Ramberg collected a takedown in each of the first two periods, along with an escape, to lead 7-1. A pair of takedowns in the third period, as well as a riding point, would help close out a major decision. The Vikings return to the Elmen Center on Saturday afternoon, hosting Minnesota State at 2 p.m.
