SHWANEE, Kan. - The No. 5 Augustana Viking softball team picked up where they left off over three weeks ago, earning a pair of victories on the first day of the Top Gun College Invitational.
Game One: No. 5 Augustana 1, Central Missouri 0, 8 innings
A single swing of the bat was the only offense needed for the Vikings to earn a victory in the first game of the day.
After being no-hit through seven innings of play,
Andrea Cain had enough. The junior outfielder ended the pitcher's duel with a bang, slugging a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the eighth to take home a victory to open the day.
Grace Glanzer (3-2) was dominant in the circle, allowing just one run while striking out 11 to keep AU in the ballgame. She struck out eight of the nine UCM starters on her way to victory.
AU reached base six times in the first seven innings, working six walks. Cain reached with a pair of walks while
Briana Lee also had two walks.
Desi Cuevas drew a walk and had a stolen base while
Lexi Lander drew a walk as a pinch hitter.
Game Two: No. 5 Augustana 8, Washburn 3
Augustana closed out its doubleheader to open the trip with a convincing victory over Washburn. The Vikings held an early 6-1 lead to pull away as each team scored a pair of runs in the later innings to bring the game to its final score. Full stats and information can be found tomorrow.
