SHAWNEE, KAN. – No. 5 Augustana softball grabbed a 9-1 victory in six innings over Pittsburg State following a 4-2 loss to No. 8 Rogers State on Saturday afternoon at the Top Gun College Invitational.

The Vikings hung tough against a familiar foe from last season's super region tournament, but ultimately fell to the nationally-ranked Hillcats.

GAME TWO: No. 5 Augustana 9, Pittsburg State 1
With help from two
Andrea Cain home runs, the Vikings put the pedal to the metal and took down the Gorillas, 9-1, in six innings.
Lexi Lander reached on an error by the shortstop, advancing
Desi Cuevas to third before the duo each stole a base, scoring Cuevas.
Norah Christiansen then knocked an RBI single out to center field to bring in Lander.
With a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the second inning, Cain sent a rocket over the center field fence for a three-run homer to extend the advantage. A single from
Stella Harber scored another run in the top of the third before the Gorillas plated one of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Competition remained scoreless until Cain again lined up a shot over center field for another three-run homer to bring the Vikings ahead 9-1.
Cain collected six total RBI to go with her two home runs as Christiansen and Harber each added in two hits and Cuevas and
Briana Lee knocked out a double each. Lander took the win in the circle, striking out seven batters through her six innings of action.
UP NEXT
Augustana will return to action on Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. game against Northwest Missouri State followed by a 12:30 p.m. battle with Emporia State to round out the Top Gun Invitational.
