Three Vikings Win Region Titles; Four Qualify for NCAA Championships

3/1/2025 10:00:00 PM

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Four Vikings punched their ticket to the NCAA DII National Tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana as three wrestlers won their respective weight classes on Saturday afternoon in the Elmen Center. Augustana also finished third overall in the team standings with 110.5 points, sitting behind St. Cloud State (133.5 points) and Parkside (112.0 points).

Jaxson Rohman, Cael Larson, Cade Mueller and Max Ramberg will all represent Augustana at the championships meet on March 14 and 15.

Rohman was the first to earn qualifying status at 125 pounds. Following a first-round bye, he turned up the heat against Jackson Heatson of Upper Iowa and secured a 17-2 tech fall as time expired in the third period. He went on to face Sloan Johannsen of Northern State and took a 13-4 major decision to reach the championship match. Rohman faced a familiar foe in Shane Corrigan of Parkside, where—as he did in the dual matchup earlier this season—Jaxson pinned his opponent in the second period to take home the crown.

At 149 pounds, Larson collected a dominant 20-7 major decision over Walker Bents of Minnesota State and found himself facing Wyatt Turnquist of Northern State in the semifinals. It was an electric and entertaining battle between the frequent opponents and ended in a 6-3 decision for Larson. He then took control early and collected the 11-6 decision against Upper Iowa's Ethen Doty for the region title.

Mueller flew through the first two rounds of competition, taking a 2-0 decision against Adam Sylvester of Southwest Minnesota State and a 12-1 major decision over Daevon Vereen of Sioux Falls. He faced Dante Roggio in the semifinals and claimed an 8-5 decision to reach the title match. That bout was reflective of the earlier matchup between Mueller and Reece Worachek back in December as the contest went into sudden victory overtime. But this battle required extra time, forcing a first and second tiebreak period where Mueller collected a takedown to earn the national tournament bid.

After a first-round bye, Ramberg added to his season collection of tech falls with a 15-0 victory over Grant Cook of Minnesota State in 6:39. He added in a 9-1 major decision against Matt Kaylor of UMary in the semifinals, securing his spot in the national tournament. Ramberg would go on to finish second overall in the weight class.
