SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The two-time reigning NSIC Champion Augustana football team recently wrapped up its spring slate with the annual spring game on Saturday. As part of the festivities at the game, four-time NSIC Coach of the Year
Jerry Olszewski announced the four players voted as team captains for the 2025 season.
Among them are senior captains
Gradee Sherman,
Logan Leonard, and
Isaiah Huber, while
Gunnar Hensley was named a captain as a junior.
Sherman, the defensive lineman from Viborg, S.D. earns his first captainship. The All-NSIC second teamer and two-time Academic All-NSIC honoree appeared in all 12 games on the Vikings' defensive line last season. He recorded 7.5 tackles for loss as part of his 32 total tackles. He was credited with four sacks and three pass breakups while also recovering a fumble.
Holding down the other captainship on the defensive side, Leonard found himself on an All-NSIC list for the first time last season after recording five pass breakups and four interceptions with 48 tackles. The two-time Academic All-District honoree started all 12 games at defensive back while creating chaos for opposing quarterbacks.
Huber, the receiver and return extraordinaire from Rochester, Minnesota, was named All-NSIC as both a returner and receiver in 2024, with his first team accolade for his return prowess. He was second in the NSIC with 23.6 yards per kick return and is third with 9.0 punt return yards per game. His 96.17 all-purpose yards per game ranks fifth in the NSIC.
A soon-to-be junior signal caller from Carlsbad, Calif., Hensley dazzled in his first year under center and was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week twice in 10 starts this season while earning All-NSIC honors. He ranked 10th in the country in completion percentage at 66.8 percent, 25th with 228.6 passing yards per game and 30th with a 149.1 passing efficiency.
Augustana's 2025 season opens Aug. 30 vs. Missouri Western in a non-conference matchup at Kirkeby-Over Stadium. The NSIC schedule will open up Sept. 6, welcoming Jamestown to the conference and Sioux Falls.
