CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Augusana volleyball team closed out its weekend of competition on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep over Minnesota Crookston to secure its first conference win of the 2025 season. The Vikings made quick work and garnered their seventh win of the year, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-15.
Maya Wente led the attack with 13 kills, followed by
Lucy Belisle with 10 and
Brooke Berens with nine.
Kiylah Franke stole the show with 35 assists and nine digs. Wente and
Sydney Tims dominated the net with three blocks each. Augustana held a hitting percentage of .370 to UCM's .167. The Vikings edged out the Golden Eagles in kills 49-36 and in assists 46-24.
Wente garnered a hitting percentage of .632, while Frankie secured three kills with a hitting percentage of .600. Maya Vandrovec rounded out the top three in hitting percentage with .538, with seven kills.
Both teams traded blows in the opening minutes of the first set before Augustana gained a slight advantage off a kill from Wente to make it 13-11. UCM evened the score 15-15 off a kill from Madison Carsten. The Vikings' offense ramped up for a six-point run that carried momentum to secure the first set, 25-18.
UCM opened up the second set on top, 5-3, but blocks by Belisle and Tims put Augustana back on top, 6-5. A five-point run from Augustana quickly pushed the Vikings' lead to seven, 18-11. The Golden Eagles showed offensive power throughout the middle of the set before Augustana edged out UCM for a set two win, 25-19.
The Golden Eagles shot out to an early 6-0 lead in the third set. Augustana answered with a four-point run of its own. The momentum carried for Augustana as it gained the lead 15-11 off a kill from Belisle. A string of four-point runs for the Vikings carried them to a Saturday sweep, 25-15.
