Women's Basketball Captures Friday Victory Against Jamestown

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana Vikings (6-9, 3-6 NSIC) won their second game in a row, downing the Jamestown Jimmies (4-9, 2-7) 70-65 in their Friday night matchup.

Isabella Sanneh led the team in scoring and rebounds with 17 and 13, respectively, gathering her ninth double-double on the season. Addie Hanna added 11 points for 2 for 3 beyond the arc. Maliyah Elliott also had a night beyond the arc going 2 for 2, garnering 10 points. Miranda Lomax and Kristin Edmonds both added nine points.

The Vikings started off hot with a three-pointer from Edmonds. After a bucket from Jamestown, Payton Hardy came down to drain another three for the Vikings. Baskets continued to go back-and-forth throughout the first quarter ending it with a score of 18-17 in favor of the Vikings. The lead for the Vikings was powered by three pointers going 5 for 8.

The Vikings took a significant lead in the second quarter outscoring the Jimmies 17 points to 4 points. After a scoreless two minutes to start the quarter, Sanneh started the spark for the Vikings with a jumper. After a free throw from Jamestown, Elliott knocked down a three and Ava Pautz a free throw. The Jimmies responded with a three to cap off their scoring for the second quarter. The Vikings ended the quarter on a 7-0 run led by Pautz and Sanneh. Edmonds ended the half with seven points and Sanneh added 10 along with nine rebounds.

Hardy started off the quarter hot with a steal and bucket to put the Vikings up 14 points. Scoring went back-and-forth once again with Elliott scoring seven of the Vikings nine points in the first couple of minutes. Out of the media timeout, the Jimmies took the first basket. After a pair of turnovers for the Vikings, they bounced back, scoring four straight points, increasing the lead to 17 for the Vikings. Hanna rounded out the scoring for the quarter with a three, putting her at eight points on the night. The Vikings continued to lead, ending the quarter 58-46 over the Jimmies.

The final quarter saw a four-point run from Jamestown to start but a layup from Sanneh ended the early spark. The Jimmies didn't let that affect them though as they went on to score 11 points to the Vikings seven in the fourth quarter. With three minutes left, the Jimmies hit two three-pointers back-to-back to bring the Vikings lead to only three points at 68-65. The game concluded with a pair of free throws from Sanneh to bring the game to its final score.
