Soccer Rounds Out the Weekend with a Tie

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana tied Minot State 1-1 on Sunday at Morstad Field. Ava Hurt scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute to tie the game for Augustana.

Hurt scored on her lone shot on goal and finished with two points. Grace Katter led the Vikings with four shots, including two on goal. Leah Gschwendtner added three shots and put two on frame. Linnea Larson played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.

After the Beavers put an early shot high, Augustana earned four corner kicks between the 3rd and 10th minutes. The Beavers later had an attempt by Patricja Penkauskaite stopped by a team save. The Vikings pushed again with three corner kicks and five shots, including Addison Burt's attempt saved by Rebecca Sargent. The Beavers moved ahead 1-0 when Jayva McKibben scored off an assist from Iliana Rivera, and Minot State followed with three shots around the 37th minute. Gschwendtner recorded three late shots for Augustana, and Makenzie Nelson's penalty kick was saved by Sargent as the Beavers carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

After the Beavers earned a corner early in the second half, Brittney Egbert put a shot on frame that was saved by Larson. Augustana generated a series of chances from there, including a saved Nyla Tharp attempt, two Katter shots in quick succession, and a Paige Bracker shot saved, while also earning corners. After a physical stretch that included multiple fouls and a yellow card to the Beavers, Ava Hurt scored in the 77th minute to pull Augustana even at 1-1. Neither side scored again as the match finished tied 1-1.
