2/1/2026 4:35:00 PM

| BOX SCORE 2 MANSFIELD, Texas – No. 9 Augustana closed the 2026 Lone Star D2 College Classic on Sunday afternoon, winning 8-4 against Midwestern State before a wild 16-15 victory in nine innings over Cameron.

Augustana 8, Midwestern State 4
Claire Wynja and Sidney Smart had three hits, an RBI and a double apiece to help push the Vikings to a win to open the day. Wynja also scored twice and stole three bases while Ella Cooper, Desi Cuevas and Kierra Lubovich each recorded a hit. Mateya Speltz (2-1) allowed two runs in four innings and struck out three to earn the win while Helene Krage allowed two runs in the final three innings.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Vikings struck in the bottom of the inning. Desi Cuevas drew a one-out walk before coming around to score on a double from Claire Wynja to open the scoring.

Wynja would move to third on a passed ball and then score on a double from Kierra Lubovich to make it 2-0. With two outs, Stella Harber drew a four-pitch walk and Sidney Smart blooped a double into right, scoring Lubovich to take a 3-0 lead.

After MSU scored a run in the top of the third, a circus broke out in the bottom of the frame to extend the AU lead. Smart and Ella Cooper each singled to lead off the inning. Tierney Schramm attempted a sac bunt but reached on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing Smart to score.

The play continued as Schramm forced a pickle between first and second and as MSU tried to throw behind to get Cooper, the ball got away and allowed her to score. As Cooper slid in, another throw got away from MSU, allowing Schramm to finish off the little league home run.

Cain walked with a fresh slate following the snowball fight but was thrown out trying to take an extra base after a Cuevas single. Wynja brought her in after reaching on an error and then scored on a steal of home to round out the scoring for Augustana. MSU went on to score three more runs but it wouldn't be enough to mount a comeback.

Augustana 16, Cameron 15
Cain had three hits, including two doubles and a game-tying home run in extra innings, while driving in four runs and scoring three to help the Vikings to a wild win. Wynja and Tollefson also had three hits each with Tollefson adding four RBI.

The offense scored early and often in game two to put the game out of reach. Cain doubled to lead off the bottom of the frame and scored off a Cuevas double. Wynja followed with a single and a throwing error pushed Cuevas across the plate while Wynja got to third. Lubovich and Norah Christiansen each walked before a Susie Tollefson single moved everyone up a base.

Smart drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the fourth run with no outs and, after a strikeout and foul out, Cain walked on four pitches to drive in another run to put the Vikings ahead 5-0 into the second inning.

Cameron scored a pair of runs in the third inning to bring them back within 5-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Wynja reached on a two-out, infield single and got all the way to third after a throwing error. She scored on a Lubovich single to add a run and Christiansen drew a walk on a full count to get the two on. They would both come around to score four pitches later when Tollefson parked a double to left, bringing the AU lead to 8-2.

That lead evaporated as the Aggies scored five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take an 11-8 lead. The Vikings chipped back in the bottom of the sixth on a Smart RBI single and bases-loaded walk to Harber, bringing AU within 11-10.

Garcia held CU scoreless in the top of the seventh inning to set up a comeback attempt in the bottom of the inning. Cain opened the frame with a double and moved to third on a bunt single from Cuevas, who stole second on the next pitch. Wynja went on to send a fly ball to right field that got dropped, allowing Cain to score, but the Aggies would cut down Cuevas at the plate to keep the game tied. A fly out and ground out sent the game into extras.

The Aggies scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning and the Vikings scored a run to pull within three with two outs. Cain wasn't ready to go home yet, though, blasting a three-run home run to right field to tie the game at 15-15.

After a scoreless top of the ninth, the bats were able to finish the game. Lubovich started the inning at second base before moving to third on a sac bunt from Christiansen. On the first pitch of the next at bat, Tollefson finished the game with an infield RBI single, bringing home Lubovich and closing out the tournament.
