WINONA, MINN - The Augustana Vikings fell to the Winona State Warriors 82-49 on Saturday afternoon in McGown Gymnasium.
Ava Pautz led the Vikings (9-15, 6-12 NSIC) with 15 points and hit three of the five Viking 3-pointers.
Isabella Sanneh added 14 points and six rebounds.
Miranda Lomax showed for eight points while
Payton Hardy and
Kristin Edmonds each had four.Â
The Vikings started off slow, allowing the Warriors (15-9, 12-6 NSIC) to open the game on a 7-0 run before Sanneh snagged a layup to stop the momentum. Winona State continued their scoring with jumpshot before a layup from Pautz prior to a media timeout.Â
Out of the timeout, Winona State quickly added another bucket, prompting an Augustana timeout. The Vikings and Warriors traded several baskets, but Winona State pulled away after hitting three consecutive 3-pointers in three possessions. The Vikings trailed the Warriors 20-8 after the first quarter.Â
Winona State once again came out hot in the second quarter with a 3-pointer but was short lived after a layup from
Payton Hardy.Following a free throw from Sanneh, the Vikings went scoreless for 3:27 while the Warriors found themselves a 6-0 run before another Augustana timeout.
Out of the timeout, Pautz added two for the Vikings. Despite the quick start out of the timeout, the Vikings went scoreless again for 2:42 of play until
Miranda Lomax found herself two points to end the scoreless run. Lomax rounded out the Vikings' points in the first half with two free throws as Augustana headed to the locker room trailing the Warriors 39-17.
The Vikings opened the second half scoring after a 3-pointer from Pautz, but the Warriors didn't let up, continuing to score as both teams traded baskets. Lomax added another 3-pointer before the next timeout.
Out of the timeout, Sanneh grabbed a 3-point play to give her 11 points in the game. Following her points, the Vikings went scoreless for 2:34 until Sanneh added two more points for the Vikings before the end of the  third quarter. The Warriors continued to lead the Vikings 62-33 heading into the final quarter.
Winona State continued to extend its advantage in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Vikings 12-6 in the first 5:53 of play.
Payton Hardy ended a scoring drought for the Vikings with a layup. The Vikings added five more points late, but ultimately  fell to the Warriors 82-49. Â
The Vikings return to the Elmen Center for a game against Minnesota State on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
