BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Mia Garcia of Augustana women's tennis was named the NSIC Player of the Year, announced by the conference Tuesday morning. The Vikings also earned multiple all-conference honors.
NSIC Player of the Year
Mia Garcia (Jr., Tulancingo, Hidalgo, Mexico / Technologico de Monterrey, campus Pachuca Hidalgo)
- Went 14-4 from No. 1 and No. 2 singles, including 8-0 in NSIC play
- Teamed with Simoneto Karaouza go 11-6 in doubles play, including 7-1 in NSIC play
- Named All-NSIC the past three seasons, including first team twice
- Helped Augustana to an 21-2 record and an NCAA National Championship berth
In addition to the major award winners, the Vikings saw Garcia,
Fernanda Sandoval and
Rhidaim Yang earn All-NSIC Singles First Team honors.
Maria Fiacan,
Simone Karaouza and
Chelsea Seidewitz were honored as second-team honorees.
Fiacan and Sandoval landed themselves on the All-NSIC Doubles First Team while the duos of Garcia/Karaouza and Yang/
Smilte Bakyte earned second team honors.
The Vikings are 21-2 and just clinched their third berth into the NCAA Tournament after they defeated Missouri Western, 4-1. Augustana's time in Surprise, Arizona, kicks off on Tuesday, May 19.
