SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana took down MSU Moorhead 2-1 on Sunday at Morstad Field. Augustana outshot the Dragons 27-3 and put 13 attempts on goal while allowing one shot on frame.
Grace Katter scored the game-winning goal and led Augustana with nine shots, putting three on goal.
Ella Weide scored on her lone shot, recording the first goal for the Vikings.
Madelyn White recorded an assist and added three shots, including two on goal.
Natalie Ramthun added an assist and put her only shot on frame.
Augustana created the first push, as
Laina Souerdyke had two attempts in the 3rd minute around an Augustana corner at the 4th minute, and Katter followed with a shot wide at the 5th before the Dragons' Clara Butler missed right in the 8th minute. Katter forced a save from Emilia Kristensen at the 11th minute and White put another shot on frame at 14 minutes, while the middle of the half featured six combined fouls from the 15th to 24th minute with additional Augustana chances from Katter at the 21st and 23rd minute. MSUM earned a corner and had another Butler shot, but Augustana generated another late sequence with seven shots and a corner from the 32nd through the 40th minute, including saves by Kristensen on attempts from
Ava Silvernail,
Leah Gschwendtner and
Avery Heinz. The Dragons' Lizzy Jaraczeski was shown a red card in the 40th, and the half ended scoreless.
From the 47th to the 50th minute, Augustana recorded three shots, including a
Paige Bracker attempt saved by Emilia Kristensen, before Weide scored at the 52nd minute off White's assist for a 1-0 lead. Katter made it 2-0 at the 67th minute from Ramthun, and Augustana put additional pressure on goal before Clara Butler scored for the Dragons with an assist from Abby Toso to move the score to 2-1. Augustana continued to generate chances late, with
Makenna Aldrich's shot saved after a corner and
Delaney Awe's attempt saved before a final corner, and the half ended with Augustana claiming 2-1 win for a weekend sweep.
