Why Augustana?
"It was the summer of my junior year and I was going to be a senior that coming fall at Roosevelt High School. We were heading up to Regionals, since we had just recently won our State Cup. Anyways as we were heading to Regionals I was trying to decide if Regionals was going to be it for me or if I wanted to continue my soccer career in college. A couple of the girls on my club team had already committed to play soccer at Augustana University so I thought man that would be a lot of fun to play with the girls that I'd come to know and appreciate for years. I got in contact with Coach Barkus. I told him that I was interested in playing soccer at Augustana. He texted back within a few days saying that would be awesome if I came and played for him at Augustana University. He set up a visit for myself to get a feel for the campus life and how practices would go as a collegiate athlete. I immediately fell in love with the campus and was thinking to myself this is the place I can see myself at for the next four years of my life. Mind you this was the very first college visit I had ever been on. So I stayed in contact with Brandon and he had informed me of a camp that the soccer girls put on every year. I told him I was interested and ended up going to the camp. I met all the girls that play for Augustana now and I met the girls that I had the potential of playing with. Right when I met all the girls and got to know them all I knew I was all in. I had talked to Brandon after the last day of the camp and told him that I would love to play for Augustana. We sat down in his office and talked for about an hour about money and how much he was offering me to play. Three days after he gave me an offer I called him and told him that I was going to commit to Augustana. It was the best decision I'd ever made."

17849Katy Foster
Midfielder, 5-8
Longmont, Colo./ Silver Creek H.S.
Colorado Storm

Why Augustana?
"I first became interested in Augustana due to the fact that it was a small university, which meant a great deal of individual attention. Small class sizes, along with the tight knit community definitely drew me in. When I continued looking at Augustana, I became aware of the pre-professional program of Occupational Therapy they had there, which increased my interest immensely. However, since soccer has been a part of my life from my pre-school days, I also knew that I wanted to continue this sport throughout college. With everything already said about this school's fitting academic environment, I didn't realize how talented of a soccer team Augustana had, and I knew I needed to check it out and get in touch with the coaches.  After Coach Barkus came to Lincoln to watch me play, we went back to Augie to have dinner with some of the freshman girls. The camaraderie between everyone at the campus was unbelievable, and I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of their team and close family."

17853What they’re saying about Foster
"Katy is a Central midfielder with quality touch and good vision. She looks to play simple but can also play the longer diagonal balls that beats defenses on the break. Katy has been a big part of her Storm team's success and it was noticeable when she wasn't present on the field due to illness or injury. She is a leader for her team."- Coach Jeffrey Carroll

Barkus on Foster
“Katy is an aggressive, fit and intelligent player.  I first watched her play at the UNL ID camp and she was a great lead by example sort of player, however, she was very confident being vocal.  I fully expect Katy to come into the program getting after it physically and verbally!  What I also really liked about Katy was her ability to read and how super composed on the ball she was.  Katy was a late commit, but I believe she will have a great career!”

17850Jensen Froehlich

Why Augustana?
“When it comes to making a college decision, a lot of questions come to my mind such, "How big are the classes? How far away is it? Am I going to like the coach?" I chose Augustana University because I felt at home. I knew from the beginning that Augie would be a great fit for me because it was close enough to home, yet far enough away. The class size also played a major role in my decision making process. I like getting to know the students and professors in my class so the class size was perfect. My relationship with my coach and my team is very important as well. Coach Barkus was welcoming when I first went to camp and makes me feel like I am already part of the team. All of the Augie players welcomed me with open arms, and I am looking forward to playing with them next year as well as building friendships. The campus is beautiful and manageable to get around. I chose Augustana because it is where my heart is at. I can't wait to start this fall, and I am looking forward to the first day of practice.”

17845Katie Ortgies
Midfielder, 5-6
Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha Burke H.S.
Omaha FC

Why Augustana?
"There were multiple factors that went into my decision to choose to attend Augustana. Since I started to first think about colleges I knew I wanted to go somewhere in the Midwest because I didn’t want to be too far from home. Augustana is only a few hours from my home and I thought that was the perfect distance for me. The size of the school was also something that played in role in my decision. After I had visited a couple different schools, I found that I didn’t like the big schools with the big campuses. I wanted someplace with a good community atmosphere, and the size of Augustana provided me with just that. Academically, I think Augustana will be challenging, but that is what I liked about it. Having a good education that really pushes me to learn and do better, is something I wanted in a college. After considering all those factors, the final push the lead me to picking Augustana was meeting the girls’ soccer team and the staff. I got to see the atmosphere in which they trained and the standards that they set for themselves, and that was something that I wanted to be a part of."

17857What they’re saying about Partington
Kelly is one of the hardest working players on her team. She's a tireless worker and in a typical game probably covers more ground than any other player on the field. Kelly is also a great attacking threat, she has incredibly quick feet, great balance and has the ability to change directions remarkably fast. Whether she's dribbling at defenders to create a dangerous attack or dribbling to maintain possession while under pressure, she's one of the most difficult players to win the ball off of that I've coached.”- Coach Joseph Hartwell

Barkus on Partington
“What else can be said about Kelly other than, “What a competitor”…She is strong, hard, determined and fantastic in the air, for only being 5’2”. Kelly is extremely positive and an excellent communicator and both her high school and club teammates adore her. Kelly loves to be fit and work out and I love to recruit that type of player.
