Bret Severtson

Augustana’s all-time career leader in saves, Bret Severtson, joined the baseball staff as the pitching coach in 2013.

A native of Flandreau, S.D., Severtson pitched four seasons at Augustana from 2008-11 and finished his career as the most successful closer in school history. He holds the career record for saves with 24, while his 10 saves in 2011, broke his own school record of seven established in both 2009 and 2010. Severtson finished his career with an ERA of 3.83, and made a school record 71 appearances on the mound.

Severtson was a two-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honoree and was an all-region selection as a junior in 2010.

In 2011, Severtson led the NSIC with seven saves in conference games, setting a conference record, breaking his previous conference record of six in 2009.

Following his collegiate career, he spent the summer of 2011 pitching for Lake County in the Independent North American League and the St. Paul Saints of the Independent American Association.  In 2012, he pitched for the St. Paul Saints and appeared in 32 games with a 5.66 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched with 31 strikeouts.

Severtson spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Southwest Minnesota State as the pitching coach where he earned his master’s degree.
