Former Viking pitcher Casey Jacobson enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Augustana baseball team in 2013.
Jacobson played for Augustana in 2011 and 2012, helping the Vikings post back-to-back 30-win seasons. The baseball program reached a milestone in 2011 when the Vikings secured a berth in the NCAA tournament for the first time.
He was named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Gold Glove Team in 2012. He was also chosen to the 2012 Rawlings/ABCA Central Region Gold Glove first team.
Jacobson was selected NSIC and NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the week on May 9, 2011. He tossed 6.0 shutout innings against Minnesota Duluth, leading the Vikings to a 1-0 win. He yielded two hits, struck out three and held Duluth to a 0.95 batting average.
His career statistics with the Vikings include a 2.56 ERA, and an 8-7 won-loss record. He pitched 112.2 innings and registered 69 strikeouts. Jacobson also set a school record for innings pitched (82.2) during his senior season in 2012.
