Luke Wiersma is in his second season as a graduate assistant with the Augustana men's basketball program in 2011-12. He served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2009-10 season.
Wiersma came to Augustana following a two-year stint as a student assistant coach at the University of Mary. At U-Mary, Wiersma was responsible for coordinating all of the team's travel arrangements. He also assisted with game planning, recruiting and player development.
Prior to U-Mary, Wiersma spent the 2006-07 season at Bethany Academy High School in Bloomington, Minn. There, he acted as an assistant varsity coach and head coach of the junior varsity team. He was elevated to varsity head coach for the final 10 games of the season when the head coach stepped down due to health reasons.
Wiersma comes from a basketball family. His older brothers Brian and Andy both played basketball at Southwest Minnesota State.
A native of Chanhassen, Minn., Wiersma earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from U-Mary in 2008. He is currently pursing his master's in sports administration and leadership at Augustana. He resides in Sioux Falls with his wife, Sara.
